inkAID Iridescents, Silver—1 Pint

$27.00

inkAID Iridescents—Silver
Silver iridescent pigment combined with a clear gloss ink jet receptive precoating with adhesive. Provides a beautifully shimmering silver finish.

Basic Application Directions
inkAID Iridescents contains an adhesive and can be applied to any surface or substrate that can be fed safely through your printer. It is especially useful when you want to print on clear plastic, colored plastic, metals or any non pourous surface. It is used when you want to shorten the time between coating and printing on hard surfaces. It can also be used on porous surfaces like paper.

Important: This is a unique formulation that cannot be replicated by mixing metallic pigments with other inkAId products.

Note that this precoat works successfully with printers with wheels or guides (also known as "pizza wheels") ONLY IF the surface of the substrate is porous, like paper. If applied to a non-porous surface like plastic, “pizza wheels” can drag across the printed surface and damage the print or gum up the printer. When using printers without these wheels, (most large format printers) you do not need to be concerned about the porosity of your surface.

Directions: Applying the Iridescent Precoat

1. Check MSDS Iridescents (there is a separate MSDS sheet for each color) Pearl --- Silver --- Gold --- Red --- Blue for safety instructions in handling this product. Wear protective gloves.

2. Stir before applying.

3. Brush onto surface making a light and even coating of inkAID Iridescent. Foam brushes give a smoother coat than bristle brushes.

4. Allow the first coat to dry thoroughly.

5. Apply as second coat. Non porous surfaces, like metal, needs a good layer of coating which aids in ink drying. It is a good idea to brush in a direction perpendicular to your first coat. Clean up with soap and water.

6. When all coats have dried to the touch the sheet is ready for printing. (inkAID side up!)

7. Some experimentation may be necessary to get your settings right for optimal color, especially if you are working on a non-white surface where the inkjet colors will be mixing with the surface color. Use “semigloss or enhanced matte” paper settings as a starting point.

8. Let your print dry a day or two before any post coat is applied. You can fix the surface with a spray-on fixative like those by Krylon Crystal Clear. After fixing completely, you can coat it with acrylic medium for further protection or work over the print with natural media.
